Cummings vs Johnson

May 26th, 2021 I believe that Cummings has succeeded in sending Boris off in a boat, headed for a perfect storm. People are not yet ready to accept a lot of what Dominic said as their minds are closed to the man, a result of the press coverage which has been blinkered. The perfect storm though into which Cummings has launched the vessel, will comprise of more than the pandemic, it will become clear that Biden will not back any trade deals until the Northern Ireland situation is rectified, and that seems unratifiable to me if Boris wants to stick to his ideal Brexit. It is already clear that Boris put the country in peril as such was his determination to travel to India, thus not closing the border earlier, what happened to that trade deal, I don't know. The fishermen have been badly treated (Brexit) the health secretary has been accused of being a liar and the social care workers abandoned and made scapegoats. People are uncomfortable with the power that Carrie seems to wield, an...

Growth & Change

Image
Growth and change can feel uncomfortable, so you 'stay small.' Other people might not understand a 'new you' so you 'stay small.' If you 'stay small' you will continue to fit in, you can keep plodding along. All pervasive conforming keeps you small and can lock you into a self-image you may not like.  Humans are pack animals and as such we tend to move with the herd, go with the flow. This can be detrimental to our mental health. Do you feel locked into conformity?  For example, do you have to dress a certain way to succeed in your job? Is this way of dressing denying your creativity? Are you slowly being moulded into a person you don't really want to be? Is your relationship in a rut? Are you stuck in a routine? Are you conforming to a relationship stereotype? Have you found yourself in a job which is stifling your core character? Are you in accounts when you would be better suited to the art department? Are you afraid to change? Do you wonder whe...

Learning to be Cheerful

Image
Can you learn to be cheerful? Is it even a realistic goal? Can you choose a path of optimism? What is optimism? Daniel Goleman states in his book,  Emotional Intelligence ( 1995) that optimism " means having a strong expectation that, in general, things will turn out all right in life, despite setbacks and frustrations...optimism is an attitude that buffers people against falling into apathy, hopelessness or depression in the face of tough going." Life is tough. Whether you are a student, a teenager, a young parent, an old parent, employed, unemployed, in love or nursing a broken heart. Life is a road which carries many bumps, it is how we choose to navigate the road which can make the journey enjoyable, miserable, magnificent, or dull. There will always be something with you as you make your journey. It will go everywhere with you. It will be always on display. It has no size. It has no colour. People will make judgements about you based on it. Its impact on your life is pr...

Thought For The Day (First published 30 March 2020)

Image
Well, what an alarming time to be alive. Each day resembles an episode in an unbelievably bad and depressing TV drama. If only we could turn off the TV! The magnitude of the economic disruption caused by the coronavirus, or caused by the government in response to the coronavirus, is so unbelievably huge that it's almost impossible to take in. The virus itself is bad enough but the response is making me feel so sick and worried for our future, the future of the UK and the rest of the world, that that feeling of dread is creeping into my bones and suffocating my spirit. I see happy, jumping children transformed into hunched worried waifs. I see smiling, busy parents white faced and deep frowned. I see jolly waiters grey with worry, empty tables, and barren kitchens. I hear worried silence where there should be laughter, quiet murmurings where there should be singing, stiff bodies where there should be dancing. The streets are empty, the shelves are bare. The schools where laugh...
